Privacy policy

How FTM Media Pty Ltd collects, uses, stores and discloses personal information in Halven, and the choices you have about it.

Who we are

Halven is operated by FTM Media Pty Ltd. In this policy, “we” and “us” mean FTM Media Pty Ltd, and “you” means a person who holds a Halven account.

We handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 2020 (New Zealand) and the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

What we collect

We collect the following categories of information.

  • Account information. Your name, email address, password (stored only as an argon2id hash), timezone, and an optional profile photo.
  • Family information. Your family’s name, timezone and currency; your children’s names, dates of birth and optional photos; and the roles of anyone else you invite.
  • Content you create. Messages, calendar events, custody patterns, schedule change requests, expenses and receipts, payment records, journal moments, check-ins, Info Bank entries, and files you upload.
  • Location. Captured only at the moment you deliberately record a check-in, together with the accuracy radius reported by your device. We do not collect location at any other time, and the app does not access location in the background.
  • Call information. Records of call attempts — participants, times, duration and outcome — and, only where both parents have separately approved recording, the recordings themselves.
  • Technical information. Device identifiers and push notification tokens, IP address, and diagnostic and crash data.
  • Usage counts. Aggregate counters used to enforce fair-use limits and monitor costs. For the tone check and writing assistant we keep counts only, never the content of a draft.

How we use it

  • To provide Halven — running your family’s calendar, ledger, messages and record.
  • To notify you and your co-parent of actions that affect shared arrangements.
  • To generate the exports and reports you request.
  • To secure accounts, prevent abuse, and enforce fair-use limits.
  • To provide support when you contact us.
  • To meet our legal obligations.

We do not use your information for advertising. We do not sell or share personal information with data brokers, and we do not carry out cross-app or cross-site tracking.

Who can see your information

Halven is a shared record, so some of what you create is visible to other people in your family by design.

  • Your co-parent sees all shared family records: messages between you, shared calendar events, the expense ledger, shared journal moments, check-ins, and shared Info Bank entries.
  • Your co-parent cannot see private calendar events, private journal moments, files in your My Files space, your drafts, or any tone check or rewrite result.
  • Third parties you invite — such as a grandparent or step-parent — see only what the inviting parent grants. They never see expenses.
  • Professionals such as a lawyer or mediator get read-only access to the modules a parent selects, for a fixed period. Both parents are notified when a professional is attached, the grant is visible to both, and every view is logged.

Service providers

We use third-party providers to run Halven. Each processes information only as needed to provide their service to us.

  • Application and database hosting, and file storage.
  • Email delivery, for notifications and account emails.
  • Push notification delivery.
  • Real-time calling infrastructure, where you use calls.
  • An AI provider, for the tone check and writing assistant. Draft text is sent only when you invoke the tool, is processed to return a result to you, and is not used to train models.
  • Error monitoring and diagnostics.
  • App store billing and subscription management.

Some providers store or process information outside New Zealand and Australia. Where that happens, we take reasonable steps to ensure comparable protections apply.

Storage and security

Information is encrypted in transit and at rest. Passwords are hashed with argon2id. Files are stored privately and reachable only through short-lived signed links, and uploads are virus-scanned before they can be downloaded. Health identifiers are masked by default and every reveal is written to an audit log. Access is controlled through a single per-family authorisation layer.

How long we keep it

Family information is retained for as long as the family account exists. Records are append-only: messages, check-ins, journal moments, call logs and payment history cannot be edited or deleted, including by us.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account from within the app at any time. Because these records are shared between two people, deleting your account anonymises you rather than erasing the shared family history: your name is replaced with “Former co-parent”, your credentials are purged, and files in your private My Files space are deleted. Shared family records remain available to the parent who is still using the account.

Where both parents — or the only remaining member of a family — request deletion of the whole family, we delete it after a 30-day grace period, including stored files.

Your rights

You may request access to the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it if it is wrong. You can export your family’s records from inside the product at any time. Some corrections are limited by the append-only nature of the record: where a record cannot be altered, a correction is appended rather than substituted.

To make a request, or to complain about how we have handled your information, contact privacy@gethalven.com. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner in New Zealand, or the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner in Australia.

Children

Halven accounts are for adults. Children do not hold accounts and do not have email addresses in the system, and there is no child-facing analytics. We collect information about children only as entered by a parent for the purpose of coordinating their care.

Changes to this policy

If we make a material change we will notify account holders by email before it takes effect.
