Clarity is a safety feature.
Messages stay as sent
No editing or deleting once a message becomes part of the shared record, so neither of you has to re-read a thread wondering whether it moved.
Changes need agreement
Care arrangements and shared settings do not shift silently. A change is proposed, reviewed and agreed before the plan moves.
Location is momentary
A handover check-in captures the moment. Halven holds no continuous location permission and keeps no history of where you have been.
The same view for both homes
Shared information is not rewritten differently for each parent. What you see is what your co-parent sees.
Security
How the data is protected.
Standard practice, applied properly, is most of the job. Here is what is actually in place.
- Encrypted, coming and going
- Everything is encrypted on its way to us and while it sits with us, and it is backed up every night.
- We cannot read your password
- Passwords are stored scrambled, using the method security people currently recommend. Nobody here can look yours up.
- Your files stay private
- Receipts, documents and photos are never public and never guessable. Only the people in your family who are meant to see a file can open it.
- Sensitive numbers stay hidden
- Medicare and NHI numbers stay covered until you tap to reveal them, so they are not sitting on screen when you hand someone your phone.
- Nobody sees another family
- Every family is sealed off from every other one. There is no shared view and no way to end up looking at somebody else’s children.
- Built for New Zealand and Australian rules
- We work to the Privacy Act 2020 in New Zealand and the Australian Privacy Principles, rather than treating either as an afterthought.
Privacy
What we do not do.
In this category, the restraint matters more than the features.
- No ads, ever
- No advertising, no ad networks, no cross-app tracking, no data sold or shared with brokers. There is no version of this product where a custody arrangement becomes ad targeting.
- As little about the children as possible
- Children do not have accounts or email addresses, and nothing in the app is aimed at them. We hold what is needed to run your calendar and your list of costs, and no more.
- Second look leaves no trace
- Second look results and rewrites are visible only to you, are never stored, and your co-parent is never told the tool ran.
- Professionals are visible and time-boxed
- Anyone you bring in to help — a mediator, a lawyer, a parenting coach — gets read-only access to the parts you choose, for a set period, and it ends by itself. Both parents are told.
Leaving
If you close your account.
You can delete your account from inside the app at any time. Your name becomes “Former co-parent”, your login is purged, and your own private files are deleted.
What stays is the shared part — the messages between you, the expense list, the calendar. That history belongs to both of you, so closing one account does not empty the other parent’s calendar or wipe out what they are still owed.
We say this at sign-up and again at the moment you delete, so it is never a surprise. If both of you want the whole family removed, it is — after a 30-day grace period, then deleted completely, files included.
Reporting a vulnerability
If you believe you have found a security issue, please email privacy@gethalven.com with enough detail to reproduce it. We will acknowledge you within two business days. Please do not access, alter or keep any family’s information while investigating.
